Insufferable Wenches was formed in late 2024. We are a grassroots progressive advocacy and activism organization. We hold monthly meetings in the Cedar Valley, but are branching out to meet at locations all over Iowa! We focus a lot of our energy on keeping the public informed about Iowa Legislature. We work with local legislators, break down legislation and make it more accessible, support candidates, and focus on civic education and awareness.
We're working on big things here! Our main focuses are as follows:
- Inspiring people to run for office
- Boosting young voices
- Being a welcoming and inspiring organization
- Giving back to our local communities
So what makes us different from any other organizations? Like others, our goals are all the same! We want Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We want equal rights for all. We want a community that cares for each other! That's what we all want in the end.
What we feel makes us different:
- We stay in contact with legislators that fight for us all over Iowa, not only our county
- We work with other agencies as often as possible
- We believe to win back our government, we have to start from the ground up, so we focus a lot on state government.
- We hold elected officials accountable, no matter what party they are registered with.
So, what do we do:
- We meet monthly
- We plan voter registration events and community building activities,
- Mutual Aid, from local food pantries to gathering school supplies, we want to give back to our community.
Lastly, and definitely not most importantly, we troll our reps online, in the most constructive way possible. You will see us in Kim Reynolds (and many, many others) comments, pointing out her out on hateful legislation and contradictory stances.
We want to be a space where everyone- any age, any color, any income, any human (well, anyone who doesn't support stripping rights away from human beings of course).
